Buying ice for a house party: checklist

Birthday, barbecue, dinner with friends or New Year at home. What to have ready so the ice never runs out — and how to order without leaving home.

Bucket of ice and bottles at a party

Ice checklist

  • Bagged cubes for the glasses.
  • Extra cubes + cold water in a bucket or tub for the bottles.
  • Crushed ice if there'll be caipirinhas or mojitos.
  • A cool box or freezer space for the bags.
  • A scoop or tongs for serving — never a glass in the bag.
  • A shady spot for the drinks bucket.

Stress-free ordering

  1. Order the day before or a few days ahead.
  2. Pick a time slot when you're at home.
  3. Keep the bags sealed until serving time.
  4. Open one bag at a time.

Frequently asked questions

How many bags should I order?

Tell us the number of guests, how long the party lasts and whether it's outdoors — we'll work it out with you. For a full table, Iceology has a guide on how much ice per person.

Can I get the ice in the morning for an evening party?

Yes, if you have a freezer or cool boxes. Sealed bags in the shade last several hours.

What if there's ice left over?

Bagged cubes go back in the freezer for another day. Crushed ice doesn't keep well — order just what you need.
